Microfiction Monday #42

And now I'm all caught up with the forty-second Microfiction Monday photo (The Stony River site seems to be down so I'm not linking to it):

Here's my response:

The stones bore witness to their crimes. The stories they could have told, but nobody knew how to ask.

The Nick Of Time

There is a service today at St. Paul's in Covent Garden, the Actor's Church in memory of Nicholas Courtney. I'm going today, but I wanted to take this opportunity to say how impressed I was with the tribute issue of Doctor Who Magazine. Four Doctors, a host of companions, other actors, writers, directors, producers and the president of Equity all paying tribute to Nick.

It's also a perfect opportunity to post the only other photo I have of Nick and I. Taken seconds after the other one it looks very much as if Nick is saying something like "What do you need another bloody photo for?"

Another Monday, another Microfiction duo.

Here's the fortieth photo:

Here's my response:

The lobster squeaked.

The flower glowered.

This was not the beginning of a beautiful friendship...

Here's the forty-first picture:

Here's my response:

The astronomers knew nothing of the starbabies, because they only looked up at the sky after their bedtime.

Carruthers Camera #16

Five more Carruthers blog photos:

Swallow was a wall near Old Street tube in London.

Car Wars was taken during a day's marathon training. Brogan parked his car in London Bridge and we went for a run. Or rather Brogan and Mark ran whilst I rode Brogan's bicycle because we were trying to rest my injured knee. When we returned, many hours and many miles later, the car was face-to-face with the monstrosity on the right.

The sign in Tasty Utilities is outside a shop on Leyton High Road. Sadly, I can guarantee that the smile on the sign outside, is nicer than any you might see inside.

The Unhelpful help point that found its way into a trainspotting post, was on the platform of a train station I can't remember the name of on the way back to London after the Reading Half Marathon.

The bins in They've Bin Arguing are bins in Islington. For some reason they began a spate of photos I took of bins.

e-Merge

Emergence is a phenomenon in which individual components form a complex system which can only be described as a function of the components acting together, not as a strict addition of the individual components. In other words, something that is more then the sum of its parts.

e-Merge was a trio of interdisciplinary performances at the Institute of Contemporay Arts made up entirely of these functions. Rules were put in place and certain actions caused other actions and so on and so on with increasing complexity until the show took on a life of its own. The three performances were both quite different in the order things took place. Following these rules was a cast made up of a mix of singers, dancers, computer technicians and actors (although for some reason the latter are omitted from the write up below). The show was the brainchild of Jane Turner.

I have no idea what the audience thought of this, either as piece of theatre or dance. Or maybe even as a pattern that arose out of a multiplicity of relatively simple interactions in a complex system.

Lenin's Lunch

I'm filming today with The New Factory of the Eccentric Actor. They are making a film version of Lenin's Lunch, performed a few years ago as a theatre piece, and parts of it were in Visiting Revolutionaries. Gary Merry, the director and actor playing Lenin has written about it on his blog.
