Microfiction Monday #46

They say a picture is worth a thousand words, but Stony River's Susan only wants 140 characters.

Here is this week's picture:

Here is my response:

Staring out of the car's rear windshield, Carl was certain they were the 33 longest miles on the face of the Earth.

Reminds me of childhood road trips! Are we there yet?

EG CameraGirl said...

OH yes, road trips as a kid. Fun, eh? :)

Haha, nice to see a story leaving the sign behind rather than oncoming.

Have a great week.

My MM is here.

Childhood whine-memories of "Are we there yet?" are ringing in my ears. LOL!

You are so right about that!

Doesn't every car journey seem that way? Great take on the picture.

HAve a great week.

True. When we long for something, even the slightest of the distance makes it seem so long.

Cheers

Sometimes it can go on forever.

Sometimes when travelling a car journey and longing for a particular destination, the views may speed by but it somehow the feeling is like travelling on the back of a tortoise!

aahh clever, leaves so much to the imagination, truly a story from 140 characters, brilliant!

I'm sure it's a loooong stretch of road, but it's only 17 miles from Coolville to Belpre.

Other than being (obnoxiously) nit-picky about the math, I enjoyed this one.

Dave said...

Well done Eric.

I made a mistake and that hadn't occurred to me, but by the same token if Carl's car was driving away from that sign he is alo driving away from Belpre. If it's a straight line, driving 33 miles from Coolville would take them 50 miles from Belpre.

Maybe Carl's folks are lost.

Now, that's not nice to say about the people of Belpre. I'm sure they're cool, too. In that, "I live right next door to Coolville" kind of way... Great take.

They haven't gone far enough yet for mom to whip out the road games...sigh...

Travel feels that way sometimes, doesn't it.

I'd love to hear what's happening with Carl after seeing that moment in his life -- reminds me of many a childhood road trip too, as well as our parish priest who was kidnapped and driven away in the trunk of his car one day -- yup, it's got me thinking!

I wonder if Carl was in a hurry to get somewhere or if he just wanted to get as far away from Coolville as possible! Good one.

Why does it always take longer to get there than it does to get home?

Love your take on the pic. :)
