Panelled

I put in an appearance on a panel at RoberCon the other day with thirty or so other writers from the Outside In series of books. The introductions alone took up the entirety of the first Zoom meeting and then another half an hour or so of the second.

I was expecting it to be far more chaotic than it was, but despite the number of people involved it worked out very well. It was great to put faces to the names that I've seen in the other books. The panel was recorded, but I have no idea if there are any plans to make it available on YouTube.

I've never been to a convention before and I think that I probably enjoyed this more as a result, because I wasn't comparing it unfavourably to a 'normal' convention. I'd love to be a part of something similar again and When This Is All Over I'd love to go to a convention everybody else would recognise as the way they normally were.

Ice Age

IGN have a sneak preview of Outside In Trusts No One. The good news (for me), is that it's not mine, so that we both have an opportunity to read Rachel L. Ramlawi's piece on the first season episode, Ice.

You can pre-order Outside In Trusts No One here.

RoberCon 2020

I will be a guest at the virtual RoberCon 2020 on the 27th of September (2020) alongside other writers for the forthcoming Outside In Trusts No One.

The panel is entitled: From the Outside In: Exploring the Eerie Worlds of The X-Files and Kolchak, the presenter and/or moderator is Robert Smith? and the other panellists are still TBD.

Here's the description from the website:

"The Outside In series from ATB Publishing, edited by Robert Smith?, looks at groundbreaking television series through essays by different writers for each episode. The mandate for contributors is to go beyond the usual commentary and create something unique so that readers will never view the episodes in the same way again. In two upcoming volumes, Outside In will tackle the worlds of The X-Files and Kolchak: The Night Stalker. In this panel, Smith? and just some of the writers involved will discuss how they approached the adventures of FBI Special Agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully as well as intrepid journalist Carl Kolchak from a whole new angle."

The panel is due to start at 2pm EDT, which is 6pm GMT.

Other guests include Paul McGann, Miriam Margolyes, Dr. Pants and Our Family Plays Games.

My Second 'Week' On Medium

I had intended to try and write an article on Medium every day, but after the first week, life got in the way and I failed. Here's the next batch of seven articles that in no way were posted over the period of a week:

Things I Learned During My First Week On Medium, having managed the first week I decided to see what I have learned from the experience.

The Worst Day Of The Rest Of Your Life, a short story for the publication The Junction.

Six Word Sci-Fi, an attempt to tell a science fiction story in just six words.

A Letter To Lemuel Gulliver, of Gulliver's Travels fame.

Sarah's Trek, my wife's journey from never having seen an episode of Star Trek to being a massive Trekkie.

Science Fiction Short Story Markets That Pay, no less than twenty-four places to send that science fiction short story masterpiece.

A Star Trek: A Viewing Order, broadly speaking this is the order that my wife and I worked our way through all the Star Treks.

Insecure Writer's Support Group #9

Summer is gone and autumn is here. Here's another Insecure Writer's Support Group. You can sign up here.

This month I learned that a book about The X-Files that I contributed to is at the printers and being published some time next month.

This month's optional question:

If you could choose one author, living or dead, to be your beta partner, who would it be and why?

Phillip J. Reed, all day, every day.
