Soft Boiled

This began life as a self portrait to accompany the excellent one by Joseph Ducreux, but along the way it turned into more of an egg with a face akin to Terence and/or Philip from South Park and hair half way between Adolf Hitler and an emo group that I'm too old to be more than peripherally aware of.

I'd Rather Have A Bowl Of Odo Pops

After Frosted Frakes made its way across the internet, The Geek Twins have posted something today about the recent Star Trek breakfast cereals meme phenomenon.

Despite my lack of Photoshop skills (and my lack of Photoshop), I decided to add to the madness and include one from Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, a series so far unrepresented in cereal box form as far as I know. I give you: Odo Pops.

Odo's story was in many ways at the core of DS9 charting his journey from being the only one of his kind to finding his race and then losing them again, to fall in love, winning a war only to lose the woman of his dreams to save his species. I can only hope that when Rene Auberjonois was crafting a character as complex as Odo, that he also wanted his face on a cereal box.

U Is For...UFO's

My twenty-first post for the A-to-Z Blogging Challenge, U Is For... UFO's:

UFO's or Unidentified Flying Object. I'm a big fan of spaceships, although none of those are really UFO's since I've identified them.

I suppose UFO's are objects that technically only fly when they are inside a planetary orbit and above its surface.

I posted a few other pictures that I've drawn here. For some reason I left this one out, well not any more.

I Drew This:

The UFO looks a bit like a Dalek saucer from Doctor Who. I don't think it was a deliberate choice, but maybe that makes this a semi-identified flying object.

I Is For...I Drew This

My ninth post for the A-to-Z Blogging Challenge, I is for... I Drew This

Someone gave me a sketchbook and after ignoring it for months, I decided it would be a waste if I didn't use it. I'm not particularly good at drawing, but I've discovered that I really enjoy it. I prefer to draw with fine marker pens and mostly in black. The drawings that I like most have some sort of narrative to them.

I was looking through the sketchbook the other day and I decided to post some of the better pictures on here. I don't have a scanner so these are awkwardly taken photographs of the pages of the book propped open. A couple of them are a bit blurrier than I would like. Sorry.

I Drew This:

I probably drew round something for the shape of planet Earth and Africa looks a bit weird. I've drawn lots of variations of this blank-faced character over the years.

The proportions on this adventurer aren't very good, but I really like the detail (and lack of detail) in the landscape.

It's a nose. I've always been fascinated by the Sphinx's missing nose. Here's an idea of what we do with a massive stone nose. The black dot on the side of the nose is something showing through from the next page.

I must have traced Alfred Hitchcock, I'm not that good at faces. I can't explain why I wanted to put him on the end of what looks like a Mosque.

This is probably the first time I got the proportions of the human form to look right. Sadly you can see the ghostly form of Marvin the paranoid android from the movie of The Hitchhikers Guide To The Galaxy floating through from the next page, which somewhat lessens the impact of this picture.

More alterations to somebody else's hard work for the benefit of the Carruthers blog:

Once again at the centre of the Sitcom Porn posts was a piece of adjusted DVD cover art Phoenix Nights & Rising Damp, The Day Today & Gavin & Stacey and the christmas specials of both Gavin & Stacey & The Office

I added a 'U' and a 'P' to a photograph I took in the National Media Museum in Bradford to create the Caress Of The Daleks.

Not content with simply adding letters to photos, I made Nil By Moustache out of the Nil By Mouth DVD cover and two halves of Mr Carruthers' moustaches as drawn by Gi.

I added an 'S', and an 'E' to a photo to create Honesty Is The Best Policy. Guess which 'S' and which 'E'.

The majority of our Sitcom Porn posts contain an image of a pair of DVD covers altered to contain filth: The Office & Red Dwarf, Spaced & BrassEye, Arrested Development & How I Met Your Mother and Family Guy & American Dad!

Carruthers Cartoons #2

At times I have adapted other people's art for use in the Carruthers blog, here are a few examples:

Gi Lewis drew the original picture of Mr Carruthers' face, which became a silhouette and so Exhibit D features a combination of the aforementioned silhouette coloured a not particularly mustardy-sort-of-a-yellow and something from a game.

A tiny version of the same silhouette is somewhere in a Where's Wally picture The Gobbling Gluttons by Martin Handford, try and find him in Wally Folly. If you want to cheat, the answers are here.

For the first of our sitcom porn posts I amended the DVD covers of I'm Alan Partridge & Extras to sound filthier.

To accompany a set of mixed reviews I inserted a photograph of Andy and Mike from the sitcom porn video onto the screen in an empty cinema for Video Ga Ga

After the undeniable success of last time, I decided that another colourless Jump Leads page would mean another unsolicited colouring from me.

Bad Spock Drawings

Leonard Nimoy is a much respected actor best known for playing a member of one of the most respected alien races in popular culture and yet for some reason someone has been moved to create and collect Bad Spock Drawings.

I like Star Trek. In spite of this, I drew these.

Although I'm not particularly adept at drawing or painting I did find myself coming up with these for The Carruthers blog:

The Futures Here... features a poster for the act at the centre of Mike's Actors Gone Rogue sketch.

The Joy Of Specs and Speckled were both drawn for the Glasses sketch.
